Breakfast with the boys

Today is the day daddy has breakfast with his brothers, every Wednesday they meet at a local favorite cafe, talk, joke, debate old times. Daddy had 4 brothers and he is one of the middle or second to the youngest. He is the only one that has gotten dementia so far. This disease has changed him, and I know it will continue to steal my daddy from me, but I cherish every moment I get to spend with him. Well I need to go get coffee made and get my day started. Make the most of this 24 hours and do something.

Daddy home alone

I had to go to Pasadena for a meeting and daddy didn't want to go with me, so he stayed home alone. I was gone about 4 hours, and when I got home. I always ask him what he did while I was gone.  So he told me he got a good shower and then ran around the house naked,  lol he is a character and has me laughing all the time

Our story

I'm Charlie's oldest daughter and circumstances have made it possible for me to be my daddy's caregiver.  He has the early stages of dementia, possible Alzheimer's, I say that because there hasn't been an official diagnosis,  he does have dementia though. And this blog is about our sometimes comical conversations.  And as the dementia gets worse,  it maybe away to express my gratitude and frustrations being my daddy's caregiver.

Daddy says a lot of funny things on a daily basis. He struggles to find words sometimes,  so I have to be patient with him.

We live in Texas, he was one of 7 kids of a rice farmer, although his sisters have passed away,  him and his brothers are very close and have breakfast every week at the local cafe. I call them the boys,  and they all were hard working men.  They have lots of laughs every time they are together.

I got up early this morning, I had to make a casserole to take to Easter dinner at my son's grandmother's family,  yeah that would be my ex's mom's.  He wasn't there this year so she invited daddy and I. I was in the kitchen working on the casserole,  and there was daddy trying to sneak up on me to scare me,  we laughed.  Then he said " I'll be damn she made coffee"  I normally let him make the coffee, so he doesn't get too spoiled.  Today was a great day for us,  Happy Easter from daddy and I!
